Seventeen Storms

This song was inspired by a guy I saw on The Weather Channel predicting how many named hurricanes there would be that year. Seventeen, he thought.

Jack Burgess - lead guitar

Not Enough Face

I wanted to record a song with verses that were spoken rather than sung, so I wrote this. The hypnotic groove reminds me of someone driving on a highway in the rain, just thinking.

Jack Burgess - guitars

Fanfare For The Uncommon Man

I sometimes like to break away from “normal” pop songs and write and record an instrumental piece like this one. The challenge is to keep it interesting without a lyric to rely on!

State Of The Art

This song was recorded using Apple Logic on the MacBook in March 2012. The swirly bit at the beginning is made of numerous samples of piano, speaking, and applause that got “all mashed up”.

Insufficient Evidence Was Found

This song was recorded using Cubase on a MacBook in January 2010. It’s one of the most complex songs I’ve ever recorded!

Pam Beery - flute

John Boyd - voice

Moon Beam

This song was recorded using Apple’s Logic software in September 2010. I extracted short snippets from material John and I recorded and then “assembled” the snippets, along with some percussion loops, into a song.

John Boyd - guitars, vocal

Video Corner

Here are a couple of music videos I made using GarageBand and iMovie. In each case, I created the song first, then used iMovie to edit a collection of video clips to match up with the music. (The clips themselves were recorded with an inexpensive digital camera in “video” mode.) The completed videos were then uploaded to YouTube.

Check out this video I made with Rusty Strings, the band I run sound for. We used two video cameras during repeated takes of the song, performed in five different outfits. I pulled all the best shots together using Apple’s Final Cut software to create the final video.
